Mission Statement
Born to be Microbial® aims to integrate scientific knowledge about the human microbiome into current (preventative) healthcare.
She does so based on peer-reviewed science and from her experiences as a body-centred therapist and former bowel disease patient.
Over the past 15 years, we have learned about the human microbiome at an exponential rate. Major research projects such as the NIH Human Microbiome Project, MetaHIT (EU) and the Flemish Gut Flora Project have given us insights into the composition and functionality of the gut microbiome. Correlations were found between certain gut bacteria and a whole range of chronic diseases such as obesity, inflammatory bowel diseases, cancer, and even neurological disorders such as autism and depression. This is a promising area of research, as evidenced by the rapidly growing global market for microbiome-based companies and products.
That gut bacteria are important for our health has quickly become known to the general public, partly through popular science communication in the media. However, most of the education has been through commercial channels.
Born to be microbial® was born out of a lack of nuance in the many commercial opinions about the gut microbiome and the need for a common basic understanding of how our microbial allies work. Driven by years of experience in gut flora research and as a body-centred therapist, she translates gut microbiome science into human language and practical application.
DISCOVER YOUR MICROBIAL NATURE
Rosemarie has given me insights that have led me to advise patients in a different way. For me, the great value of her lectures is the independent view of the expert.
It is nice to be able to learn from someone who is so close to the research and who, as you can hear, is so passionate about it.
Sofie Es – Osteopath
You can actively manage your health through a healthy lifestyle and diet. Here we get help from an unexpected source: the gut microbiome. Dr Rosemarie De Weirdt of ‘Born to be Microbial’ expertly explains how this microbiome helps us every day and what we can do to give our microbial partners a boost.
Warmly recommended!
